Find yourself booking San Antonio instead of San Diego? Settling for Syracuse over New York City? Meeting in Louisville rather than Nashville? Well, you're not alone. According to meetings industry analyst Knowland, more and more meetings are being booked outside the top 25 markets.

Lexington, Syracuse, Richmond, Oklahoma City, and Louisville led the way in meetings volume this January. So what's causing this trend? Rising costs from suppliers and a wave of large events booking in the top markets.

While secondary markets can provide your event or group with new and fresh experiences, and possibly even a faster or more cost-effect booking decision, it's still not be where you want to be meeting. So what can you do, if you really, really want/need to be in a popular market?

  • Be flexible with your dates and quantity of rooms.
